Amber velvet nails are literally ASMR in nail form

Forget about dipping your toe into the new season. I’ve always found decorating your fingernails much more effective instead. Currently on the radar? Amber velvet nails… I know. Even the words feel like ASMR.

I spotted the trend on Melanie from Overglow Edit’s Insta, since she can always be counted on for some seriously phwoar inspo. And, for the uninitiated, the trend, according to Melanie, is “giving changing fall leaves, but make is sparkly.”

It strikes a clever balance. It’s half cutesy nostalgia, thanks to the glitz finish, which conjures up the sparkly lurex socks and soft velour scrunchies we wore as kids. But it’s also got grown-up cosy vibes with a rich amber colour that hits exactly in between two of the biggest shades this season: latte brown and mustard. Sounds like it shouldn’t work, but we’re pretty sold by the pics.

It offers up an alternative to the more classic autumn nail trends like moody bordeaux tones, navy Frenchies and forest greens. Plus it’s remixed the headlining glazed donut trend for a sparklier autumn update that’s heavy on warm, snug tones.

As for how to recreate it, Melanie’s remained coy for now (promising to share the exact colour combo in a follow up video). But for something similar Le Manoir’s Wild Honey is perfect for creating a yellow-y honey base, while Orange Leather is a slightly warmer alternative. And Gold Velvet is the perfect glitter topper for extra dimension. They’re best applied by pros but for a beginner combo that you can apply at home, try Essie’s Expressie Quick Dry Formula in Saffron On The Move (a yellowy-orange) and Dior’s Vernis Nail Polish in Solar Bronze for some warm sparkle.

So, if you’re ready to enter your autumn era, amber velvet nails is one mani to have on your radar.
