Walmart isn’t taking this year’s Amazon Prime Day sale sitting down. The retailer has announced plans for this year’s Walmart Summer Deals promotion, which will kick off the day before Amazon’s big annual sale. Walmart held a major sale alongside last year’s Prime Day, too—it seems mega-retailers competing with Amazon have become as much of a tradition as Prime Day itself. Here is what you can expect from Walmart Summer Deals this year.

What is the Walmart Summer Deals sale?

Walmart Summer Deals is Walmart’s answer to Amazon’s Prime Day. It is both an in-store and online sale, with deals to be had on most things that Walmart sells (save for groceries). Although the name might vary a bit from year to year, Walmart hosts a big sale every year, around the same time as Prime Day.

When does the Walmart Summer Deals sale start?

The Walmart Summer Deals sale starts Monday, June 22, at 12 a.m. ET for Walmart+ members (a day before Prime Day begins at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23) with an online-only, curated list of “high-demand Deal drop items” during the first 24 hours of the event. Essentially, this means Walmart+ members will get first dibs on these exclusive deals. The general sale will start on June 23 at 12 a.m. EST and run through June 28.

Do you need to be a Walmart+ member to shop during Walmart Summer Deals?

You don’t need to be a Walmart+ member to shop the Walmart Summer Deals sale. But if you are a Walmart+ member, you’ll get early access to the sale beginning Monday, June 22, at 12 a.m. ET.

Typically you can sign up for a free 30-day Walmart+ subscription or get the annual plan for $98 (or $12.95 per month); however, Walmart is currently offering its Walmart+ subscription for 50% off, bringing the total yearly cost to $49. Since it’s for a year, you’ll also get to use it for early access to Black Friday and other major sales. There are plenty of other benefits, like free next-day or two-day shipping, groceries of over $35 with free delivery, your choice between Paramount+ and Peacock for a year, and more.

What do you think so far?

What you can expect from Walmart Summer Deals

Walmart says its sale will cover a range of categories, including deals on electronics, fashion, toys, collectibles, furniture, skin care, and others—similar to the deals offered last year. The sale will be available on Walmart.com, in the Walmart app, and in stores. You can already see the landing page, even though the sale hasn’t started. Without offering specifics, Walmart says there will be thousands of offers across top categories. Based on past sales, you can expect discounts on 4K TVs, laptops, tablets, headphones, smart home devices, kitchen appliances, and summer and back-to-school shopping.

When you shop the sale, you can choose between in-store pickup and different delivery options, including early-morning delivery, late-night express delivery, and next- and two-day shipping.

Here are all of the other sales competing with Prime Day (so far)

The other major retailers having sales around the same time include Best Buy’s Summer Tech Fest, Target‘s Circle Deal Days, and, of course, Amazon‘s Prime Day, which they are all anchored around. While each competing retailer tends to have a couple of deals that beat Amazon, the best bargains will likely be found on Amazon.
