WIVB’s Mike Cejka is ending his 43-plus-year tenure as Buffalo‘s trusted weather forecaster. Cejka is celebrated as one of Buffalo’s most enduring broadcast legends, holding the record for the longest continuous career in the local market. He will sign off for the final time on Friday, October 30.
The 67-year-old announced his retirement on Monday morning on the Nexstar CBS station’s “Wake Up!” program. Speaking to viewers, he said, “I’ve been so blessed working at something I’m so passionate about. I’ve been really lucky; not everyone can say that.”
Cejka’s departure will bring changes to the morning lineup. Mike Doyle will take over his role on the morning show, while Andrew Baglini is returning to the station full-time to handle weather coverage. Originally from Massachusetts, Mike Cejka launched his broadcasting career in Bangor, Maine before relocating to New York.
There, the veteran weathercaster worked across both television and radio, including stints at WABI-TV, WABI Radio, and WBGW-FM. He started out anchoring weekend evenings before becoming a morning staple for Western New York viewers on “Wake Up!” and the noon newscasts.
Beyond broadcasting, Cejka expanded the station’s coverage by building a network of more than 100 WeatherBug monitoring stations across the region. He also delivered forecasts on local radio, including WKSE KISS 98.5. Mike Cejka’s contributions to broadcast meteorology earned him significant recognition within the industry.
