Doomsday Crossover Story Gets New Details From MCU Star

A new update for Avengers: Doomsday is shedding light on how Namor and The Fantastic Four fit into the MCU’s next major crossover event.

Avengers: Doomsday will bring together heroes from across multiple corners of Marvel’s cinematic universe. Alongside the Avengers, the film is expected to feature characters from Black Panther, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and even Fox’s X-Men franchise as they unite against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. While Marvel remains tight-lipped about the plot, new comments from Namor actor Tenoch Huerta Mejía offer a clearer picture of how the various teams will connect.

Speaking about the film during San Diego Comic-Con, the actor shed some light on the crossover’s structure. Huerta teased that Doomsday centers on a major “collision” that forces different groups of heroes to work toward the same objective, and while all characters don’t necessarily interact directly throughout the story, they are all working toward a common objective. It’s a collision, you know? The movie is about a collision and what they do with that. Of course, they all take care of that, but they have specific tasks to solve these problems. In your action, the interaction is not direct with all the characters, but they are chasing the same goal, which is survival. You know, that basic instinct. Just survive. It’s wonderful.

Directed once again by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film is set to serve as the next major chapter in the Multiverse Saga, before its conclusion with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

Based on Huerta’s comments, it seems that Doomsday appears to be taking a similar approach to films like Infinity War, where multiple storylines unfold simultaneously before eventually converging. According to the actor, different characters and teams will be assigned their own missions as they attempt to address the larger catastrophe threatening their worlds.

That could shed some light on how The Fantastic Four fit into the story. Following the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel’s First Family is expected to play a major role in the battle against Doctor Doom. However, Huerta’s comments indicate that Reed Richards and his team may initially be dealing with their own corner of the crisis rather than immediately crossing paths with every major MCU hero.

Additionally, Namor’s relationship with The Fantastic Four could end up being one of Doomsday‘s most fascinating dynamics. While the ruler of Talokan ultimately allied with Wakanda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, he has never been a traditional hero and has consistently put the survival of his people above everything else.

Namor’s connection to The Fantastic Four goes far beyond simply being another hero crossing paths with Marvel’s First Family. In the comics, the Sub-Mariner has been tied to the team for decades, frequently shifting between ally, rival, and occasional antagonist.

Namor also has significant ties to Doctor Doom, making his role in Doomsday even more intriguing. Throughout Marvel Comics history, the two characters have been allies on multiple occasions, often teaming up when their interests aligned. While those partnerships rarely lasted, Doom has generally had more success earning Namor’s respect than many other Marvel characters.

Although Marvel has yet to reveal a full synopsis for the film, Avengers: Doomsday appears poised to tell several interconnected survival stories across different universes. Whether it’s Namor, The Fantastic Four, the Avengers, or the X-Men, every group seems to be fighting the same battle, even if they aren’t sharing the screen the entire time.

Avengers: Doomsday comes out in theaters on December 18.
