Elden Ring is having a serious moment right now after a recent major announcement regarding the franchise’s official return in 2028. In recent weeks, fans have been losing it over leaked footage of the official Elden Ring movie set surfaced online, revealing a first look at A24 and Alex Garland’s vision for the film adaptation.
Ever since the Elden Ring film was first announced, there’s been doubt over whether the iconic characters, story, and world of the Lands Between could faithfully be adapted to the big screen. The set images have set many players minds at ease, however, and after the official release date and full cast were officially unveiled last week, hype surrounding Elden Ring is at an all-time high (via Reddit).
Elden Ring Officially Returns In 2028
Elden Ring is officially set to release on March 3, 2028, according to a recent major announcement from Bandai Namco. Further, Bandai not only confirmed production has started this spring, but also gave fans a glimpse at the full cast of actors to be featured in the upcoming adaptation (though no specific character roles have been announced just yet).
The announcement wasn’t all that surprising, given recent leaked set images from various filming locations have started to surface online, and it was only a matter of time before Bandai released some information on the release window. It’s also been met with mixed reactions among players who are largely excited about what’s to come, but disappointed that they’ll have to wait another two years to return to the Lands Between in theaters.
“That is so far away. Which I only comment on because I am so excited for it,” says kaiharizor, while fans like Jedi_Pacman are in it for the long haul: “Good or bad I will probably be there in theaters to see it. Seems like Alex Garland is a real fan of the game which is a good first step.” Director and writer Alex Garland has earned a lot of trust among players due to his obsession with Elden Ring and hundreds of hours poured into the game.
Other players are simply excited to see how the film eventually turns out, with the announcement piquing curiosity among the fandom. As A_Hideous_Beast puts it, “I genuinely have no idea what to expect. I hope it gets weird.” No matter what qualms players may have about the adaptation, it’s clear that the entire fanbase is marking their calendars for March 3, 2028.
Expectations Are High For The Elden Ring Movie
The hype surrounding the Elden Ring film is massive right now, particularly after a string of new set images have begun to leak online. Recent images reveal major character and story details, including first looks at Marika, the gallows where Dung Eater was hanged, a glimpse at what players are speculating could be Morgott, and more (via Reddit).
That said, while fans are excited to get a glimpse at what to expect in the finished product, the Elden Ring movie has absolutely massive shoes to fill in terms of telling a satisfying story that faithfully represents the game. Expectations are arguably higher than any other video game-to-film adaptation due to Garland’s knowledge of Elden Ring and its lore, and players are going to have a lot to speculate over for the next two years before its official 2028 debut.
