Peter Parker’s Spider-Man is about to transform into an arachnid monster, in one of his most drastic redesigns of all time. Now, Marvel has given fans a grotesque first look at what Peter is about to become.
Spider-Man has a long history of monstrous transformations, tracing back to the 1984 introduction of his ‘Man-Spider’ form – a multi-armed, arachnid monster made iconic by the 1990s Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
As fans speculate that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will adapt this arc for the MCU, Marvel has confirmed a far more drastic transformation elsewhere.
Spider-Man Becomes a Gigantic Spider-Monster in New ‘Hulk’ Form
In the recent Amazing Spider-Man 1000/Queen in Black CGD 2026 #1, Marvel shared an ‘Infernal Hulk’ preview from Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Nic Klein, Matthew Wilson and Cory Petit. The story shows the demonic new villain transforming various heroes into monsters – Invisible Woman becomes a transparent dragon and Tony Stark a terrifying fleshy monstrosity.
However, the most disturbing transformation is Spider-Man. Not only is Peter turned into a gigantic, red-backed spider, but his human body is left dangling from the abdomen, mute witness to the destruction he’s forced to enact.
The story is a tease for the upcoming Hulk War, from Johnson and Klein, where the Infernal Hulk (a demon who has stolen Bruce Banner’s powers) will unleash a new Age of Monsters, transforming iconic heroes into terrifying kaiju.
Marvel’s New Hulk War Explained
In recent issues of Incredible Hulk, Marvel introduced the villainous Eldest – an ancient demon intent on freeing the Elder God Vinruviel from its prison outside time and space.
To reach this goal, Eldest stole the Hulk’s powers, using them to consume Vinruvial and absorb the god’s powers over all monsters. In follow-up series Infernal Hulk, Eldest has used its new powers to possess various innocents with the souls of ancient monsters, granting them monstrous new abilities.
While the Avengers have fought back, so far they’ve failed to even make a dent. Now, the Amazing Spider-Man 1000/Queen in Black CGD 2026 preview confirms they’ll be the next victims of the Infernal Hulk’s possession.
It’s all leading to the event series Hulk War, coming early 2027, and likely seeing Bruce Banner and the young heroes of the Spider-Versity fighting back against the Infernal Hulk and its corrupted heroes.
This Isn’t the First (Or Last) Time Peter Parker Got an Arachnid Rebirth
This is hardly the first time Peter Parker has become a spider-monster, but it is the most dramatic. Peter gained superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider and finding its arachnid qualities imprinted on his DNA. With that backstory, it was only a matter of time until he became more spider than man.
That happened in 1984’s Marvel Fanfare #2, with the introduction of the Man-Spider, however body horror has remained a staple of Peter’s powers. Savage Spider-Man turned him into a werespider, while The Other awakened buried powers, including extra eyes, biological webbing, and vicious ‘stingers’ that extended from his wrists.
These stories have received new interest after the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day showed Peter awakening in a cocoon, now with biological webbing. This development is closest in nature to The Other, though most speculation has focused on the Man-Spider form, given its prominence in the ’90s Spider-Man cartoon.
Now, Marvel is seemingly giving fans what they asked for, just not how they expected it. Hulk War will turn Spider-Man into his biggest and most monstrous spider-form yet, as Peter Parker becomes the host for an ancient monster, turning him into Eldest’s latest monstrous soldier.
