Batsuit changes are coming in The Batman Part II.
Released in 2022, The Batman marked Robert Pattinson’s debut as the Caped Crusader. The Matt Reeves-directed film was met with glowing reviews and was a box office hit, but The Batman Part II development has been slow-going. Recently, though, Reeves shared the first look at Pattinson back in costume for a camera test.
Replying to a user on X, director Reeves confirms that Pattinson’s Batsuit will feature longer ears in the anticipated sequel to The Batman. The user shares images of Pattinson’s camera test, asking whether they are “crazy” for thinking the Batsuit ears are longer. “You are not crazy,” Reeves replies with a bat emoji. Check out his post below:
The camera test is the first real look at The Batman 2, but it did come wrapped up with some more disappointing news. Previously scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, the sequel was pushed back to February 18, 2028.
Though a six-year wait between installments is on the longer side in this era of franchise filmmaking, The Batman 2 is making promising progress. Filming on the sequel officially began last month, both in a Warner Bros. soundstage in Leavesden and on location in Scotland.
No plot synopsis or logline has been released just yet, but Reeves did previously confirm that the DC sequel will take place in a snowy version of Gotham. This is further confirmed in the camera test, which features snowflakes falling around Batman as police car roof lights flash in the background.
So far, Reeves’ update on the ears are the only confirmed changes for the Batsuit. The camera test only includes Pattinson’s head and shoulders, though, and it’s dimly lit, so it’s entirely possible the rest of the suit has also seen some updates.
Though there will be a six-year gap between films, the amount of story time that has passed between the two movies is relatively short, seemingly only a few months after The Batman‘s ending. This gap means Bruce may not have had the time to significantly upgrade his entire suit, so audiences will likely still be getting a Batsuit that still feels like the homemade and practical one featured in the 2022 movie.
Many questions remain about The Batman Part II, but Reeves’ activity on social media regarding the film has picked up in recent months, meaning there may well be more updates and behind-the-scenes images shared in the coming weeks. At the very least, audiences are clearly in store for some slight alterations to the Batsuit.
