During the September 2026 Nintendo Direct and Palia Path mini, Singularity 6 announced “Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.” This marks the first time Palia has been on Nintendo’s latest console, and it’s a free upgrade for the free-to-play fantasy life-sim MMO.
While Singularity 6 hasn’t announced an exact release date, the window is the holiday season of 2026. The free upgrade promises Palians (what the studio calls its players) “enhanced performance, richer visuals, new ways to play with Joy-Con 2 mouse controls,” along with a brand-new gameplay feature called Echo Expeditions.
“Palia has always been about creating a welcoming world where there’s something for every kind of player, and Echo Expeditions gives friends an entirely new challenge to share together,” said Maxwell Zierath, Director of Production on Palia, in a release to press. “Whether you’re exploring an Expedition solo, teaming up [with] long-time Palians, or inviting a friend into Palia for the first time, we wanted to create an approachable experience with plenty of room to progress, overcome obstacles, and make memories together.”
The game has continued to grow and expand since its early access launch in 2023, including ports to consoles. Now, with the free upgrade, Palia is on every major platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2.
What is new with Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?
Echo Expeditions is a major new gameplay feature that launches this 2026 holiday season with the release of “Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.” The experience introduces “wholesome-action dungeon crawling” to Palia. Giving players more endgame options.
And this move to dungeon crawling isn’t a turn of priorities. The developers shared that Echo Expeditions has been part of the game’s vision since early development and will open long-awaited gameplay threads beyond Echo Expeditions, too. This new addition also helps build out the game’s gameloop, matching the developers’ dedication to building the world of Palia, as we’ve seen with each new zone.
What are Echo Expeditions?
A dungeon-crawling system unique to Palia, Echo Expeditions can be completed solo or with a party of friends and strangers. This new feature will put Palians brave a multitude of levels while progressing their abilities and cleansing mysterious Echo manifestations in the process. Still, the game’s approach to combat isn’t changing, keeping the game fantastical and welcoming (fit for new and veteran players alike).
One of the most important elements, however, is that these dungeons will be “mostly optional,” although Singularity 6 has not shared the full context of what mostly means. That said, this feature doesn’t replace the crafting, gathering, ranching, decorating, relationship-building, exploration, and other activities already at the heart of Palia—it’s just adding more depth.
What is the Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release date?
Palia is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, GeForce Now. However, Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not currently have a set release date, but has a launch window set for this holiday season. “Echo Expeditions” will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time as the Switch 2 edition on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
