Should The Five-Star Weekend Have a Season 2?

Elin Hilderbrand’s The Five-Star Weekend is the latest book-to-screen adaptation to recently hit Peacock.

It’s one of Peacock’s best and buzziest shows currently, partly because of the all-star cast led by Jennifer Garner and supported by Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, D’Arcy Carden, and Chloe Sevigny.

The series stayed fairly close to the source material, and series creator Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us) expanded on the women’s personal arcs.

While I’m typically against renewing limited series if there is only one book, Brunstetter changed the ending of the Peacock series, leaving it open-ended with several dangling threads.

Watching all five women’s lives change over the course of these eight episodes was compelling, and there is enough to bring them all back, even Gigi.

What Should The Five-Star Weekend Cover?

Beyond a few scenes in Elin Hilderbrand’s epilogue, there is no more source material.

However, Peacock’s The Five-Star Weekend left several threads dangling, and many fans want updates on the women they grew to care about.

Eight episodes were not enough.

Hollis (Garner), Dru-Ann (Hall), Brooke (Carden), and Tatum (Sevigny) all conquered their fears and made difficult life choices, so part of a second season would be them supporting each other.

If Hollis stayed on Nantucket, it could explore how she and Tatum rebuilt their friendship, being in their everyday lives, with Hollis helping Tatum through her cancer.

We’d love to see flashbacks of the two of them with Kyle and Jack.

If the series is renewed, we need to see how Dru-Ann manages her new business while balancing life and work.

That was a huge problem for all the ladies.

Lastly, has Brooke grown more self-confident? Has she officially left her husband?

Her story was also important to watch develop since so many of us fear that we’re only attached to our husbands at times.

She’s relatable, and I want to see her thrive even more.

Besides the female friendships, many fans want to see Hollis and Jack’s relationship develop more.

I’d want to see if they became more serious by next summer, and whether the annual getaway includes couples or is still a girlfriends’ getaway.

Jack helped Hollis overcome her insecurities, so hopefully, he’ll be a vital part of her future.

How to Incorporate Gigi into Season 2

The writers changed the series’ ending to make Hollis look stronger: she forgave Gigi for her own sake, but then kicked her out rather than letting her stay for the rest of the weekend.

But the Peacock series never included Elin Hilderbrand’s epilogue when the other characters travel to Italy, and Gigi was the pilot of their plane.

In the series, the women promise to resume annual getaways, beginning with a trip to Greece the following year.

That’s the perfect way to organically reintroduce Gigi into the series. Enough time will have passed by the time the plane stops over in Greece, and hopefully she and Hollis can talk again.

Everyone was pretty enjoyable, but I thought Gigi was the messiest and most layered character, largely due to Gemma Chan. We need more of her.
