Hair looking a bit ‘meh’? These shine-inducing treatments are basically like lip gloss for your hair

If it’s not already on your radar, liquid hair is one of the biggest hair trends for 2022. Glossy, silky, shiny hair is a huge, the question is, how do we achieve it?

“We’re all striving to get the healthiest-looking hair possible and achieving the best condition,” explains hair pro and L’Oreal’s Editorial Ambassador, Adam Reed. “It’s all about ultra shine and colour that really pops – whether that’s a natural tone or not. Obviously, we can help to enhance that.”

New innovation in hair means that salon services and at-home treatments are meeting the high standards we’re setting. “Glosses are the perfect solution to give that cosmetic finish. Think of a lip gloss on the lips – this is exactly the same, but for hair,” says Adam. “We’re seeing that people are going a little bit more low-maintenance with their cut and colour,” he says, but to keep things looking glam, we’re seeking out a luminous shine.

Think of the glass hair trend but a little more laid back and wearable. Essentially we’re looking for a veil of something sleek, luscious and luxurious – which is exactly what gloss treatments offer up.

L’Oreal Professionnel’s Majirel Glow treatment, for instance is an in-salon hair colour service that offers a luminous liquid shine, with a subtle hint of tone. Much like a lip gloss, the emphasis is on a glowy finish with a sheer tint of colour. The shades – which are permanent – include daring but delicate colours like frosted rose gold, pearlescent mauve and moonshine silver, alongside more natural options like golden caramel, deep chocolate, champagne and even clear, which can be mixed to a custom colour. It’s painted on hair like a dye but can be applied as highlights or balayage for a more multidimensional finish.
