With only a couple of upcoming MCU movies and shows left in Phase 6, The Multiverse Saga is less than two years away from reaching the finish line of the massive story arc that has been the focus since Phase 4 in 2021. However, while Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will return to theaters in December, a different Marvel icon has become one of 2026’s biggest headlines.
It’s official: Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth installment in Tom Holland’s superhero franchise, has grossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office in only six days. The Sony/Marvel feature is officially the second-fastest film in history to reach that milestone following Avengers: Endgame.
This comes shortly after the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed feature surpassed Avengers: Endgame’s domestic box office opening weekend in just three days. It also marks the filmmaker’s highest-grossing comic book film, following Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021.
The commercial success of the latest adventure in the MCU timeline comes after audience members have been waiting for five years to see how Peter would continue after the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending. The big mystery surrounding Sadie Sink was also a big hyped-up factor throughout marketing, as the summer blockbuster finally confirmed that she is indeed playing Jean Grey in the Avengers-based continuity.
