Get ready for “Icebreaker,” Escape From Tarkov’s newest addition. Escape from Tarkov has been a pillar in the extraction genre for some time, and after its 1.0 release last year, the development team at Battlestate Games hasn’t stopped pushing the game forward.
If you’re unfamiliar, Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore and realistic online first-person action RPG/Simulator with MMO features and a story-driven walkthrough that originally launched in Early Access in 2017.
The launch of Patch 1.0.5.0 features the new “Icebreaker” location and its story campaign, a simplified quest-item search system, new customization sets, a seasonal sale, and Twitch Drops. Here is everything you need to know about Escape From Tarkov’s Icebreaker and everything else coming in the game’s latest major update.
What is Icebreaker?

The main addition in Patch 1.0.5.0 is “Icebreaker.” This is a brand-new, large-scale location with unique vertical gameplay, set aboard a ship trapped in a blockade. It is a full PvE level designed for solo or co-op play that also offers players a dynamic and nonlinear story.
Players will also face a new challenge: confronting a new boss and elite enemies controlling the ship. The update also involves a new interaction mechanic, hacking! Hacking in Icebreaker involves players interacting with code panels to hack security systems and make decisions that directly affect the story’s progression and the mission’s ending.
What changes are here with Update 1.0.5.0?
Players can expect two big changes with the latest update, while some smaller quality-of-life updates were also released with the patch. You can read the full patch notes here to dive into the fixes launched with 1.0.5.0.
- Quest System Simplification: A new mechanic has been introduced to make finding quest items easier across all locations. The system alerts players when they are near a relevant item using a visual indicator (video available).
- New Customization: Unique clothing sets have been added to the game: “Gen4” for USEC and “Slavyanka” for BEAR, available for purchase in the in-game store (images available).

What is Escape from Tarkov?

With each passing day, the situation in the Norvinsk region becomes increasingly complicated. Incessant warfare in Tarkov has sparked massive panic; the local population has fled the city, but those who stayed are looking to improve their fortunes at the expense of others.
Having accepted the new reality, savage Tarkov locals – “Scavs” flocked into well-armed gangs and started the redivision of the city. Nowadays, Tarkov is separated by unseen borders, controlled by different groups. Gain-greedy gunmen would go to any length to have their way, including the murder of civilians and direct confrontation with the two private military companies.
